Hello All,

You may have seen the notice on our website that the introductory price on MoneyWell is ending soon. Officially, the date has not been set but it is planned to coincide with the 1.4 release. This will have the last couple of features that I consider "mandatory" for a personal finance application.

I'm guessing that this will happen in July, but don't hold me to that. The actual date will be announced as we get closer to release.

Peace,

Scott B.

I don't by any means wish to steal any of your thunder, but I am quite
intrigued about what you have planned for the 1.4 (and eventual 2.0
releases). I imagine that there is a competitive edge that you would
like to maintain, but can you disclose any of the features that you
feel are "mandatory" to a personal finance app that are not yet in the
existing 1.3.3 release?

Looking forward to more of the same. . . .

Hi Scott,

MoneyWell 1.4 will have direct downloads from banks and more reporting
at least. Check printing is also a very big possibility.

MoneyWell 2.0 will be a Leopard-specific version and there are
significant enhancements planned for that (think attached receipts,
wish list purchases, net worth visuals, and more).

Hey there; thanks for the quick reply.

On the subject of reports and feature requests, I thought I would
mention something that I have been thinking about as a wonderful way
to glimpse the future of the accounts in MoneyWell:

Imagine a separate part of the library sidebar called "Account
Preview" or "Account Forecast" that the user could use to choose a
future date and see what their balance will be on that day (either for
all accounts or each account one by one). This feature would calculate
all recurring bills and pending/future deposits and allow the user to
either scrub along some sort of timeline or choose manually dates on a
minicalendar to see when the balance hits a certain mark (in my case,
I am watching out for "zero!"). What a powerful budgeting tool
MoneyWell would add if I could scrub along on some sort of timeline
slider and get either a number calculation (with an indicator when
dropping below zero) or some other visualization of when exactly my
account balance hits zero (I am a full-time dental student living on
school loans).

A different way to implement this feature would be to add this to the
mentioned graphing feature you are building on as some sort of dynamic
pie chart or linear bar graph that changes based on a date selection
on a mini calendar along with the account balance (both past and
projected). This linear graph (x axis = time, y axis = account
balance) could also be used to see periods of steep spending (slope of
the curve) where a user could tell visually that they need to watch
their spending out of certain buckets during summer vacations or on
weekends or other points of rapid bucket activity. Think of it as a
visual way of drawing the user's attention to periods of heavy
spending on a (customizable) daily, weekly, etc. basis.

I look at the way Google Finance gives dynamic feedback on stock
values based on where on the timeline the user is scrubbing and I can
imagine MoneyWell graphs doing the same thing, with the addition of a
projection feature based on previously entered upcoming payments, etc.

And just for grins, you could call it the Account "Forecast" feature
(small "sun + cloud" icon?), a name which could play on periods of
torrential downpour and occasional drought and would oh-so-cleverly
tie in to the "bucket," "flow," "pipe," etc. theme you working for the
app.

Anyway, don't mind me. . . just "exploring."

The original design had something like this. It was patterned after
Time Machine. Currently, you can do something similar with the pending
transactions. If you show them all, you can scroll down the list and
watch your daily balance change (bottom of the main window).

There are more visuals like this planned for 2.0. Thank you for your
feedback and ideas!
