I'm from the old school before personal computers and use to writing
each transaction in a check register also. Do I use this register for
anything? No. I just keep it for a few years just in case. Since
changing to MoneyWell and having to change the way I was thinking
using an finance application, I started thinking of other things I
could change. So I'm thinking about doing away with my paper register.

With that said, how many of you still keep a paper register?

And when 1.4 is ready what do you think about the auto reconcile
feature? Which I never used in the other programs I have use.

Well there could be another article or two that Judy could write about
the pros and cons of using these methods.

My wife and I keep a paper register going back to since we were
married ( 6+ years ). She's the keeper of the paper register for "just
in case we lose the computers" or if something else bad happened to
our finances on the computer.

I tried to convince her to go away from it because I have everything
backed up in more than one place, but she like having it. It's also a
nice double check that we've got everything.

I'm also probably not going to use the auto connect feature ( sorry
Kevin ) because of our system of sitting down and putting in the
transactions manually in MoneyWell and the checkbook register. We do
this almost daily, so it's pretty quick. Then I reconcile by looking
at my online account and marking off transactions. ( MoneyWell helps a
lot here with it's Reconciled Balance, great feature )

Mark: Thanks for the article suggestions. I've got an article coming out tonight or tomorrow about dealing with irregular expenses that I hope you'll enjoy as well. I'll see what I can come up with on these new topics you propose.

Peace~

Looking forward to reading it Judy.

And thanks for the feedback Patrick. That's been my thinking on the
paper register. But I've been thinking I got hard copy of everything.
Bank statements, credit card statements, etc. Which has got me
thinking.

Mark,

I haven't kept a check register since 1992.

It has never bothered me, nor have I missed it.

Everything is in my computer and everything is backed up through Time
Machine. Before that I used SuperDuper!. (Great Program!)

I keep every receipt and paper item (bills, etc) that comes across my
desk but duplicating my tracking is a major time waster IMHO. That is
why I can't bring myself to do it. Once I stopped, I never missed it.

Take Care

Dave
