Dear Faculty,

This morning Dean Amy Wohlert (OGS) announced the availability of 4 graduate scholarships from HED that we should encourage our students to apply for. OGS wants to award these as soon as possible so please speak to your students/advisees about them. Funding will begin at the start of spring semester.

These scholarships pay $3600 per semester for up to 2 years for Master's students and 4 years for doc students. They are intended for full-time students from groups traditionally underrepresented in their field who have financial need.

The only down-side to this is that there is a cost to departments. The recipient must be provided with 10 hours per week of paid internship or assistantship, including tuition waiver and health insurance. In addition, the recipient must serve 10 hours per week in an unpaid internship or assistantship.

For more information, go to http://www.unm.edu/grad/funding/nmche.html.

Sincerely,
Betsy
