Our local hackerspace (Reverse Space in Herndon, Virginia) held some
classes on BackTrack earlier this year, pretty intriguing, however I
wasn't terribly interested, but it seems *damn* powerful.

It's a Deb dist that fit's nicely on an 8 GB USB standard or 16GB if you want to be able to update with other software.  It's reliable and contains many tools.  But be carefull since it starts up with root privileges.
