Hi,

Thanking you again for the help on flemish inscription. I have another
question: in many still life paintings of netherlandish/flemish painters
there is a kind of glass, called "Röemer" (is the spelling correct?). The
base of the glass has a decoration of round buttons that seems like
mulberries.
Is this kind of glass still produced in Netherlands or Belgium or elsewhere?
Where can I find a Röemer to buy?
Thanks in advance for any help, including addresses or URLs of web sites.

Best regards

Sinuhe

Hello,

The glass is called a "roemer". I've found two websites where you can order
replica's of roemers: http://www.museumbv.nl/prod_op_best/replicaas.html (in
Dutch) and http://www.altexglas.nl/ . Hopes this is of any help. Are you
studying the 17th century Dutch culture?

By the way: What does Sinuhe means?

Thanks a lot for your help. I'm an italian painter found of dutch and
flemish paintings (and culture, of course!!). I've studied and made some
copies of XVIIth century Masters such as Ambrosius Bosschaert, Balthazar
van der Ast, Jan davidsz de Heem and many others.
Actually, I would try to realise some still life paintings on my own.
This is why I'm looking for replicas of ancient objects.

"Sinuhe the egyptian" is a book and also a film (Stewart Granger as Sinuhe,
1954). Sinuhe strictely means "a man which is alone".

Thanking you again for your help,

Best regards

You're welcome. I hope you will find the roemer you are looking for. I've
noticed that the Rijksmuseum also sells replicas (roemers and other things).
So, when you have plans to go to Amsterdam you could also buy a roemer
there. (See website: http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/asp/framuk.asp?name=winkel .
I believe they even sell online.) Have you been to the Rembrandthuis in
Amsterdam recently? They have reconstructed the studio of Rembrandt, with
the artefacts he depicted on his paintings. Do you know the work of Johannes
Torrentius? He has made some beautiful emblematic still lifes and vanitas
paintings. In the Rijksmuseum they have a nice emblematic still life of
Torrentius with a roemer on it
(http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/asp/framuk.asp?name=collectie).
I've looked at your website, but it's in Italian, which I can't read - it's
a pity.

With kindest regards

Unfortunately I'm never been in Amsterdam and at Rembrandthuis.
I Am specialized in Vanitas gendre, but I do not know this painting of
Torrentius. I'm studying now the work of Joachim Wtewael...
Thanks a lot for your precious advices and tips.

Actually my mastering of english doesn't allow me to write about topics like
art history or critics, or themes as Vanitas. I hope to write a french
version soon (I live in Geneva so I speak french fluently). Sorry for the
texts, but if you want you can click on the home page on "Le copie" to see
Old Master copies (fiori=flowers, Nature morte=still lifes,
paesaggi=landscapes), and then click on "Produzione artistica sulla Vanitas"
to see some recent personal works on Vanitas theme.

Thanks again,

Best regards
