Scherm twee heeft geen vensterdecoratie en reageert niet op toetsenbord (Asus Radeon 9600 SE)

Sinds een paar dagen heeft mijn tweede scherm geen randen meer om de
vensters en reageren de vensters van dit scherm niet op het
toetsenbord. Ik draai een bijgewerkte Debian Lenny, met KDE, 32 bits
kernel 2.6.25-2-AMD64, X in dual screen mode met fglrx, de fglrx-
modules voor deze kernel zijn er nog niet. Zou ik hier iets aan kunnen
doen, of moet ik maar wachten tot het probleem zich na een update
oplost?

Ik heb voor de zekerheid maar even een 2.6.25-2-686 kernel
geïnstalleerd, zonder fglrx-modules had ie de zelfde problemen, na
compilatie en installatie van de modules startte x helemaal niet meer
op.

Als ik het goed lees betekent het dat je een uptodate fglrx moet hebben
of dat je DRI uit moet zetten.

DRI werkt bij jou in elk geval niet zie de logmeldingen. (Ik hoop dat ik
een beetje goed geknipt heb.

Van de EE-melding dat de module type1 niet geladen is lig ik niet wakker.
Als ik de meldingen zo doorkijk vraag ik me even af of het ooit gewerkt
heeft.

Gebruik je de kernelframebuffer, met drm/dri/etc-modules uit de kernel?
Zijn deze goed geladen?
(Fouten lijken te wijzen op incompatible modules, modules met missende
produkt-ID's en/of missende modules.)

Heb je nog een mogelijkheid je oude kernel te starten en te kijken of
X daarmee goed werkt? Dan kun je kijken welke modules daarbij werden
geladen. Misschien loont het de moeite een installatie van de oude
kernel te forceren hiervoor.

Ik vraag me even af of de Ati-drivers zonder XMM kunnen.
Heb je enkele opties in xorg.conf (Section "Module") die je uit kunt
zetten zodat enkele foutmeldingen verdwijnen?

Zelf gebruik ik uberhaupt geen kernel van Debian. Misschien is een
oplossing linux-source-2.6.25 en fglrx-source. Dan kun je misschien
je eigen kernel (inclusief modules) bouwen die kennelijk iemand
vergeten is in de amd64-variant toe te voegen.
(amd64 zie ik ook niet bij Sid).

Het kan daarbij best zijn dat je nog andere modules nodig hebt.
Een overzicht kan je wellicht vinden met:
$ apt-cache search source | grep -i kernel | less
(apt-cache -> zoeken naar packageinformatie, grep -> filteren,
less -> weergave per scherm (ca. 20-30 regels))

Als ik jouw vragen verder lees vind ik ding erg vreemd:
Als je een scherm opent op je 1e monitor heb je wel randen en kun je
wel met je keyboard alles bedienen. Schermen op de 2e monitor hebben
geen randen en kunnen niet bediend worden?

Normaal zou ik verwachten dat je met de muis schermen van 1e monitor
kunt verslepen naar de 2e en dat dan alles nog steeds werkt.

Lijkt meer een probleem met KDE dan met X.
(Hoewel X al erg veel foutmeldingen heeft.)

Wat is een kernelframebuffer? Apt behoort incompatibele modules te
vorkomen. Zolang ik niet weet waardoor de problemen veroorzaakt worden
kan ik geen bug reports indienen.

De oude kernels doen het ook niet.

Ga ik van de wek mee experimenteren.

Slepen tussen de schermen gaat helaas niet, heeft nooit gekund.

KDE-problemen is ook een mogelijkheid, waarom dan alleen op scherm 2?
Dat valt toch nergens apart in te stellen?
De x-foutmeldingen zijn er altijd in meer of minder mate. Ook als ik
de configuratietool gebruikt heb. Ik denk toch dat het een fglrx-
probleem is. Een tijdje hiervoor gaf scherm 2 helemaal geen beeld. Dat
loste zich up na een update. Testing, dat krijg je dan.

Kernelmodule om de grafische kaart aan te sturen.
Maar het is nog niet bekend of dat het probleem veroorzaakt.

Een probleem waarbij een programma crasht is vaak eenvoudiger op te
lossen dan een waarbij het programma buggy werkt.

BTW
Apt hoort incompable problemen te voorkomen, maar bij kernelmodules wordt
dit lastig. Voor zover ik kan zien bestaan de fglrx modules wel voor 486
en 686, maar niet voor amd64.

En BTW een simpele dependency kan niet, want een verplichte dependency
veroorzaakt installatie bij de 50-90% gebruikers die fglrx niet willen
hebben. In elk geval niet in de AMD64 smaak.

Testing is unstable + 10 dagen geen reactie.
YMMV maar dan kies ik liever voor unstable.
(Of je moet genoegen namen met stable.)

veranderd. Een achtergrond is dan ook verdeeld over de twee schermen.

Dat zijn tenminste twee nadelen die ik belangrijker vindt dan het
verslepen naar het andere scherm.

Ik heb precies hetzelfde probleem (Debian Lenny AMD64, 64 bits, legacy
Nvidia driver, nagenoeg foutloze X log).
Omdat eea onder Gnome perfect werkt lijkt mij dit ook KDE gerelateerd.
Het probleem begon volgens mij na een upgrade van de kdelibs naar 3.5.9

Ik doe het op verschillende manieren. Ter info: ik gebruik Windowmaker,
dus het kan zijn dat sommige zaken niet of anders werken in bijvoorbeeld
KDE of GNOME.

Ten eerste starten verschillende programma's automagisch op bij het
inloggen in de juiste workspace.

laaste 4 zijn scherm 2.
Een tweede manier is gewoon met de muis naar het juiste scherm en
workspace te gaan en daar het programma op te starten.
Mijn 'menu' zijn aan de linkerkant de iconen 2 t/m 5 Die schuiven uit.
engeven mij de mogenlijkheid om verschillende programma's op te starten
op een bepaald scherm. Als het in scherm 2 moet gebeuren, dan zet ik er
niets voor. Moet het in scherm 1, dan gebruik ik iets als `DISPLAY=:0.0
galeon`.

Je kunt natuurlijk ook op iedere scherm een menu plaatsen. Dan heb je
dat probleem niet echt. Met wat symlinken zul je die twee wel het zelfde
kunnen houden, denk ik.

Een programma waar ik 'problemen' mee heb is Firefox, aangezien deze
geen twee instanties wil open hebben bij een zelfde gebruiker. Ik heb
dit op de volgende manier opgelost:
1) Maak twee profielen aan en noem ze b.v. Right en Left
2) Symlink de inhoud van ~/.mozilla/firefox/XXX.default en
~/.mozilla/firefox/XXX.Left
Wel de content en niet de directories zelf en niet allemaal kunnen ze
gebruikt worden als symlink. :-(
3) Start met de volgende twee programma's:
DISPLAY=:0.0 firefox -P Left
DISPLAY=:0.1 firefox -P Right

Op die maniet kun je toch in twee schermen Firefox draaien.

Wel opletten dat als je een bookmark bewaart je eerst er eentje
afsluit, want anders kan het ijn dat het vergeten wordt bij het opnieuw
starten van Firefox.

Op deze manier kan ik ook gebruik maken van de vele achtergronden die ik
heb. Iedere twee minuten worden die aangepast met een script:

5` heb je een script voor bijvoorbeeld 6 schermen. :-D

In wterm laat ik de namen zien van de bestanden en waar ze staan. Dit
omdat soms bezoekers vragen wie een bepaalde dame is. :-) Ik heb daar
bij de wterm de volgende zaken weggehaald: Titlebar, resizebar, border
en ook gekozen voor 'Koop on top' en 'Omnipresent'. Ook 'No application
icon', maar dat kies ik standaard voor alle programma's die ik draai.

Ik upgrade de distributie nooit. Ik heb meerdere boot- en
rootpartitiies. Lenny blijft Lenny. Als de opvolger er is richt ik
daarvoor een nieuwe partitie in. Mijn data staan op een server, dus
wisselen van distributie is relatief gemakkelijk.

Maar als je in Lenny bezig bent en je doet apt-get upgrade of zoiets dan kan
je de klos zijn.
Lenny-oud wordt Lenny-nieuw en Lenny is Testing weet je wel.
Maw, dan kan je net zo goed bij Etch blijven steken.
Met upgrade of dist-upgrade installeer je de laatste pakketjes die voor jouw
distributie beschikbaar zijn. Met alle risico's.
Daarom backup ik mijn root-partities als ik ga upgraden. en kan ik altijd
terugvallen op een goed werkende Lenny en desnoods bepaalde pakketjes
vastzetten die niet ge-upgrade mogen worden

Ik heb niet testing of zo in de apt-configuratie staan, maar Lenny.
Dan wordt het systeem volgens mij noot geupgrade naar de opvolger van
Lenny. Als je 'm op stable of testing hebt staan, wordt er wel
geupgrade.

Ik heb dit geautomatiseerd door in "/home/jaap/.kde/Autostart" een
uitvoerbaar tekstbestandje "kwin.sh" te zetten met "kwin --replace" er
in.
