Hello, I am trying to install Slack 12.2 on an elderly HP server with IDE
drives.

My data are on partitions of /dev/hda

/dev/hda exists, but /dev/hda1 and so on do not exist. cfdisk /dev/hda shows
them allright, though. And I can create the devices by hand, and mount
them, but then I am still at my old config. And whatever I try, setup will
not see any Linux partitions, and will not try to include them in fstab.

Any advice here? Thanks in advance.

What type of HP machine is it? dl320? hda makes me think it's another
one since it comes with scsi by default.

In that case where it is a dl320 you will need a kernel you can
fetched
from backports (In case of Debian). When using slack you might need
to patch the kernel.

Best regards,

Hans
