stopping nitrogen leaves process running

using debian squeeze and the same as last post

stopping nitrogen with q(). or ctrl-c ctrl-c
leaves process running, no do shutdown

ps -ef after shutting down nitrogen
douglas 3656 1 0 20:48 ? 00:00:00 /home/douglas/nitro/
nitrogen/rel/nitrogen/erts-5.8.4/bin/epmd -daemon

can the nitrogen run as nitrogen with out a shell?

I wouldn't worry about epmd - that's the erlang process manager daemon. It's something that just runs in the background and shouldn't interfere with restarting erlang.
