Subject: July - fundraising, and winter music

Hello all, Bonjour à tous

Three items to throw your way this installment // Trois choses pour vous
cette fois : [le français continuera en-dessous)

*****First, I'm fundraising for a recording project, called New Music for
Old Instruments.  Flying Forms, who turn up regularly in these newsletters,
are going to record my music for Baroque strings and keyboard instruments
this fall, and we need help to make sure the project will be completed under
as close-to-ideal conditions as possible.

(Many of you have already heard about this; my apologies to you for the
multiple messages.)

For the time being, we're working on raising the bare minimum we'll need to
make the project happen this fall - basically, the costs of renting a space
to record in, and hiring a recording engineer/mixer/masterer.  In other
words, about $3000, minus the $1000 we raised earlier this year.  We are, of
course, applying for grants to help cover as much as possible, but having a
strong funding base is one of the things foundations are looking for when
making their decisions, so your contribution helps us in more ways than
one.  Not to mention how hard it is to come by grant support these days.

Please visit http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Nissimschaul to find out more
about the project and give a tax-deductible donation - and be sure to watch
the video, since it has some good music in it, if you can survive my
blabbering.

*****Second, I've posted the recording of *Something Else (Music for
Sleeping through Winter)* from its premiere in New York in February.  You
can have a listen to the beautiful performance that Esther Noh and Jacob
Rhodebeck gave it at http://nissimmusic.org/music/somethingelse.shtml.
Given the heatwave in the US right now, why not cool down with some winter
music?  (But I'd understand it if y'all Europeans avoided the piece for now,
given that winter seems to have come here early this year, as if the cold
rain wasn't already bad enough.)

*****Third, looking back a month, my latest piece, *What Nobody Expected*,
for tenor saxophone and tape, and based loosely on Monty Python's Spanish
Inquisition sketches, was premiered by Pedro Bittencourt at Paris 8.  I'll
be posting the video of that pretty soon, so keep a look out...  More on the
piece is at http://nissimmusic.org/music/nobody.shtml

*****Once again, please consider supporting New Music for Old Insturments
(the link again: http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Nissimschaul), and all the
best until next time,

Nissim

---------------------------------------------------

http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Nissimschaul.

Else (Music for Sleeping through Winter)*, à
http://nissimmusic.org/music/somethingelse.shtml.
Rhodebeck, à New York en février.

http://nissimmusic.org/music/nobody.shtml
