I. I returned from the Academie Musicale de Villecroze about three weeks ago.  I'd like to try to articulate the experience, besides using less-than-descriptive words like "intense" and "incredible."  My resident colleagues were fascinating and talented, and the simple act of living with them in close quarters, all doing the same thing all at the same time, eating amazing meals together, and staying up late drinking whiskey and pastis, all in the heat of Provence in midsummer, made for kind of a crazy bonding.  My resulting piece, Three Studies (shadow in the hot sun) for Soprano, Accordion, and String Trio, is now available for listening on my website: http://nissimmusic.org/music/Threestudies.shtml

Je suis rentré de l'Académie Musicale de Villecroze il y a trois semaines.  Je voudrais articuler l'expérience sans des mots pas très descriptifs comme "intense" et "incroyable."  Mes collègues était fascinant et doué, et juste en vivant ensemble, tous en faisant la même chose au même temps, en mangeant des repas extraordinaires ensemble, en faisant dodo trop tard grâce à de whiskey et de pastis - tous dans la chaleur du mi-été en Provence, ça faisait une camaraderie folle.  La pièce que j'ai écrite, Three Studies (shadow in the hot sun) for Soprano, Accordion, and String Trio, est maintenant disponible dans mon site web: http://nissimmusic.org/music/Threestudies.shtml

II. The most exciting news to report this month is that Nuevos Misterios, likely in a slightly revised form, will be performed in New York on October 1 at (le) poisson rouge.  Flying Forms will reprise the work - amplification, pedals and all - as part of the Gotham Early Music Scene.  This is particularly exciting because Flying Forms managed to get two contemporary works programmed during an early music festival!  The other piece is quite a contrast to mine, a quiet, tonal work by Peter Winkler.  There are two other groups performing Baroque repertoire - Cantori New York and the Four Nations Ensemble.  The concert starts at 7:30pm; the doors open at 6:30 (when was the last time I got to say "the doors open at..." for a classical show?!).  $20.  (le) poisson rouge is at 158 Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village.

II. L'info le plus excitant ce mois, c'est que Nuevos Misterios, peut-être un peu révisé, aura une interprétation à New York le 1 octobre à (le) poisson rouge - un club/hall de concert dans Greenwich Village.  Flying Forms va repriser l'œuvre, l'amplification, des pédales, tous, comme partie du "Gotham Early Music Scene."  C'est spécialement excitant parce que Flying Forms sont arrives à faire programmer deux œuvres contemporaines pendant un festival de musique ancienne !  L'autre pièce, calme et tonale et par Peter Winkler, fait un grand contraste avec la mienne.  Il y a aussi deux autres groupes qui font le même spectacle avec des œuvres baroques - Cantori New York et The Four Nations Ensemble.  Le concert commence à 19h30 (portes ouvertes à 18h30).  Ca coute $20.  (le) poisson rouge est situe a 158 Bleecker Street.
