Il y a beaucoup
de choses qui se sont passées depuis le dernier bulletin. Nuevos
Misterios a été joué au Poisson Rouge a New York, ce qui n'est pas rien
(which ain't chopped liver, nu?). Mes chanteurs impressionnants ont fait
un enregistrement de qualité supérieure de Rising dans une cage d'escalier à Barnard
College. J'ai reçu un petit prix - mon 2e prix ASCAPlus consécutif.
Je suis en train de répéter avec un orchestre de chambre classique de 22
joueurs et son homologue, un groupe de 10 interprètes d'instruments traditionnels
algériens pour des spectacles le 7 et 13 novembre.

Mon orchestration du chant algérien de Kabyle, Yelha Wourar, s’est passée un
chemin bien serpenté. Par exemple, le chanteur est replace par un banjo.
Mais quand-même on la joue le 7 et 13 novembre, tout les deux à 20h30, la première
séance à Aulnay-sous-Bois, la deuxième à la basilique de St-Denis. Le
concert à Aulnay est entrée libre mais il faut payer 7€40 pour le RER aller-retour
et peut-être aussi des tarifs de bus si vous ne voulez pas marcher 20
minutes. Le 13, je peux vous avoir des billets au tarif réduit de 7 euros
au lieu de 10 euros à l'entrée. Merci de me signaler vite si vous voulez
que je vous achète des places.

I've done a lot since the last update. Nuevos Misterios was performed at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York, which ain't chopped liver (oh god, how am I going to translate that into French??!!). My hard-working singers made a terrific recording of Rising in a stairwell at Barnard. I received a slight bit of external validation with my second consecutive ASCAPlus award. I've been rehearsing with a 22-piece classical chamber orchestra plus their traditional-Algerian-instruments counterparts in Aulnay-sous-Bois, in preparation for shows on the 7th and 13th of November.

I'm hoping to get a recording of the Nuevos Misterios concert with Flying Forms - I know one was made - but it has not been forthcoming. Maybe next time?
My orchestration of the Algerian Kabylie song, Yelha Wourar, has taken some strange twists and turns - for example, the singer has been replaced by a banjo - but in the end, they're gonna play it on November 7 and 13, both at 8:30pm. On the 7th, it's at the conservatory in Aulnay-sous-Bois, out towards Roissy-CDG airport. That concert is free, but it'll cost you about 7.50 euros to get out there on the RER, plus bus fair if you don't want to put up with the 20-minute walk. On the 13th, we'll be in the Saint-Denis Basilica (that's where all the French kings are buried, which I think is almost as cool as the show at Poisson Rouge!). That show costs 7 euros if you buy them through me or 10 euros at the door - but it's on the metro so if you have an unlimited pass it costs you nothing extra. The orchestra is directed by the tireless Bertrand Guilgaud, and the traditional instrumentalists - mostly percussion - are led by Nasredine Dalil.

From there, either take the 615 bus towards VIllepinte-RER and get off at Soleil Levant or le Vieux Pays, or take the 607a to Soleil Levant (each takes about 8 minutes) - or walk from the station. To summarize: If you want to come on the 13th, get in touch with me as soon as possible to secure 7 euro tix. Or just turn up on the 7th.
