Subject: Nintendo DSi beats PSP in Japan debut
Nintendo Co.'s new Nintendo DSi handheld beat Sony Corp.'s PSP
handheld on debut of the new hardware in Japan.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the DSi sold 171,925 units
between Oct.27 and Nov. 2.

By comparison, the PSP sold 50,358 units in the same period.

The Nintendo DSi, which debuted in Japan on Nov. 1, includes a new
built-in camera and music playback functionality.

It sells for 18,900 yen ($180) and will sold in other territories next
year.

Nintendo in Oct. recorded a 34 percent increase in profit at 252.2 yen
($2.56 billion) in the fiscal first-half between Apr. and Sept.

It subsequently increased Wii shipment forecasts to 27.5 million from
26.5 million and DS software shipments to 207 million from 197
million.

Wii has shipped 34.55 million units worldwide to date, while the
Nintendo DS has shipped 84.33 million units to surpass shipments of
the Game Boy Advance (81.36 million).

Sony in Oct. said that PSP sales increased in year-over-year sales for
the second quarter.

The company sold 3.18 million PSP units between July and Sept.
compared to 2.58 million units the year prior.

In Oct., Sony began selling a new PSP Ratchet and Clank Entertainment
Pack at U.S. retail.

The SKU includes the new PSP-3000 hardware, Ratchet and Clank: Size
Matters, National Treasure 2 UMD, 1GB Memory Stick Duo for $199.99.
