What a great day for birding, seemingly across the state. When Bob Crowley and I arrived at Pickering Ponds this morning we were greeted by two green herons flying overhead, a pileated woodpecker singing its crazy song as it flew overhead, and a yellow-throated vireo singing on territory just a few yards from the car.
All morning we came across warblers - 16 species in all - with the notables being Bay-breasted, Blue-winged, Blackpoll, Blackburnian, and 3 Canadas.
We also found 11 SB dowitchers in the back pond of the treatment plant facility, and a momma wood duck with 15 youngster in tow.
