The "Bird Brains" Birdathon team of Mark Hatfield, Dottie Wendelken, Greg McCrone and I had 124 species, including 16 "conservation" species for the day. We started at Pickering Ponds trails and had 77 species before moving on. Highlights at Pickering were Yellow-throated Vireo and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher nests, 13 species of warbler, including Wilson's, Canada, and Northern Waterthrush (finished with 16 species), a Northern Harrier, and five species of swallow on the fence at the treatment plant. Brant and Northern Gannet were notable at the coast. The usual culmination of Birdathon day was listening to Whip-poor-will and American Woodcock at the Fowler Farm in Rochester. The list for those who are curious follows.
