--- NFL Picks List ---

I. Proper Netiquette

Having been on the net for well over a decade, the list owner
can find this a sore spot at times. When you send an email to either
the list or the list owner, please do not:

* Type in all CAPS. In cyberspace, that is considered yelling
* Send SPAM (unsolicited commercial email). If you send spam to
the list, you will be banned.
* Send Virus or other types of hoaxes. You can verify usually via
http://www.snopes.com or an Anti-virus company
* Send profanity or anything that a child shouldn't see
* Send a message saying "Unsubscribe me" or "Remove me". Please
take a moment to learn how to unsubscribe yourself as only you
can add yourself.

II. What is the NFL Picks List?

The NFL Picks List is a discussion group for the NFL and for
the
NFL Picks Team members. It also included updates from the "NFL Picks
Quick Hits", a feature added in 2004 and later removed after the 2007
season. Also, any major updates on the website are also sent out to
the list. It is moderated by the NFL Picks Organizer. Please note
that
by default new members are set to moderated until the Organizer
changes it.

III. What is NFL Picks?

NFL Picks is a picking group that picks all the games during
the
regular season (yes, that includes the postseason. The NFL Picks
team
has been organized since 1999. Back then, we only had 7 members who
officially got together and picked all year. (Before then, there was
a
small group that picked via email or in person with no official
standings
or anything.)
After the 2009 season, the NFL Picks site suffered a total data loss.
As such, the 2010 season was spent rebuilding the site and updating it
for the next wave of the NFL Picks group.

If you are interested in joining the team, click on Join
the Team at:

http://www.nflpicks.org

Applications for the next season are accepted from the start
of
the previous season's first game until July 31st of the applied
season. Once you apply, the application will be reviewed by the
NFL Picks Organizer. As soon as a decision is made, you will be
notified.
Once approved, you will be able to login and practice pick if a
season
has already started.

Since we started officially in 1999, NFL Picks is organized
and
operated by Bobby Russ. As of 2006, Bobby selected two assistants to
help run NFL Picks as it continues to grow. Jim Svitak, our NFL Picks
Fantasy Football Assistant Administrator, maintains the Fantasy
Football League for the NFL Picks and keeps everyone up to date with
it.
Nathan Albright, our NFL Picks Statistics Assistant Administrator, is
responsible for maintaining the statistics and spreadsheets. In
November 2007, a third assistant was added. James Oquendo, our NFL
Picks Beta and Multimedia Assistant Administrator, is responsible for
helping test the new system, verify bugs, and maintain multimedia on
our website.

In 2010, the group was reorganized and streamlined.

IV. Are there any restrictions about what can be said on the list?

Yes. Please keep the main topic on football and more
specifically on the NFL. Subjects like betting, gambling, baseball,
etc are not appropriate. Please also see Section I about Proper
Netiquette.

V. How do I send email to the list?

You can either log into Google Groups and post a message from
there
or you can also send an email to NFL-...@googlegroups.com
Please note that any and all posts may be moderated to help
prevent unwanted language and emails.

VI. How do I subscribe?

You can go to Google Groups at http://www.googlegroups.com and
registering there.

VII. How do I unsubsribe?

Never! It's not allowed! ;-) Just kidding... First things
first... Do NOT ever send an email to the list saying "unsubscribe
me".
It doesn't work and you might find out what the other list members
think
of your inability to read. To unsubscribe, send an email to
NFL-Picks-...@googlegroups.com or if registered on Google,
login
and select unsubscribe from this list.
Please note that you are unable to unsubscribe from our
discussion list via our website at NFLPicks.org. You must visit
http://groups.google.com/group/NFL-Picks

VIII. How can I get a digest version?

Login to Google Groups and select the list. From there, you
can
select the digest version there.

IX. Must I be on the list if I am a team member?

According to the rules, no. As of the 2004 NFL Picks season,
you must have an active email account registered in the NFL Picks
Member's Area. However, I personally recommend it.

X. How can I distinguish emails from this list from other emails?

First, take a microscope and you will notice the little spots
of
nachos with queso on all of them. Mmmmm... queso.... *drools*
Seriously, all emails from nfl picks will have [NFL Picks] as the
start of the subject. You can use email filters to move it to a
different
folder if you wanted.

XI. Can I subscribe a friend to the list?

That kind of stuff is considered rude in cyberspace. If you
want a
friend to join, send them the subscription info listed above.

XII. What about the old NFL Picks list?

Well, We were with Topica for many years while it hosted free
groups. However, as the ads grew and several servers have started to
block Topica as they assume that too many spammers are on there, we
decided to move to Google Groups. We were on Topica from September
16, 1999 until the end of 2004. We officially deleted the old NFL
Picks
list on Topica in May 2005. Unfortunately, with the web, we've had to
move on from past servers due to changes in their policies and the
views of those servers.

XIII. Is there a website to learn more info about NFL Picks?

Yes! Glad you asked. There is a ton of information up at:

http://www.nflpicks.org

We used to be housed on http://www.secfenia.org until the 2006
season when we officially changed over to http://www.nflpicks.org.
(Secfenia is now just the personal website of the list owner and a
game!)
