I will try to bring sa few dozen spare if you forget or don't have
access to a printer.

Again: I am planning to be in Cape Broyle at 10 AM for an 11 AM
launch.

Cape Broyle is about 1 hour out the Southern Shore Highway. We will
be
meeting at the Gazebo just east of Riverside Lounge and Restaurant,
Riverside is an interesting spot that sells among other things Moose
Burgers. It has an interesting clientele that includes people like
Mary Prat and Adrienne Clarkson.
Just Past Riverside is Stan Cooks Outfitting / Guide Shop. You may
see
it marked as O’Brien’s General Store. (They have not sold groceries
for a while.)
The beach we plan to land on (swell allowing) is Lance Cove. Lance
Cove is fairly clean as it is protected from the normal flotsam and
jetsam left by prevailing winds and swell. I think Stan Cook and Co.
may clean up a little as well as this is one of their stops. Other
clean up efforts are always welcome.
This is a 12 - 16 KM paddle and though suitable for beginners may not
work for first time paddlers. It is a protected harbour from all but
due easterly and westerly winds.
If you are bringing a beginner, a double would be a good idea but I
have towed people the full distance from Lance Cove to the community
slip. (Not that I want to do that again.)
We should be off the water at about 4 - 5 PM.
This is a club paddle so thermal protection and all Coast Guard
required equipment is a must.
CCG regulations NEED a sounding device, (Whistle) 50 feet of buoyant
heaving line, (A floating tow rope or floating twine capable of
towing
a kayak) a paddle Duh! (Not a spare, just a paddle. I and most
experienced paddlers carry spares, I have broken 3 paddles) A bailing
device, ( I use a pump but a windshield wash bucket works.) a life
vest or PFD must be carried, on club events it is carried securely
fastened to you.
Thermal protection is required as there are ice bergs in that bay so
water temp is COLLLLLDDDD!!!
This is a fun trip and no one will be doing an inventory of safety
gear, Spares will likely be around if you are short something. The
PFD's are a MUST.
Any questions? I can be reached at 682 7272.
Bring a lunch.
This should be a fun trip.
