help... laptop repair

i have a toshiba satelite
1805-5203
serial number 71225062PU

laptop that is not working,
i turn it on, the lights all do their thing but no screen opens at all

can any one out there fix this for me

or even walk me through how to find out what is wrong with it and if
it is even worth getting fixed, it is not a new machine by any stretch

it is very time sensitive for me

Darryl,

Toshiba's are famous for having the backlight go in the screen, so
that's what my first guess would be. Turn on the computer and look at
the screen in the light and see if you can see a faint picture of
whats supposed to be there. If so, it's the backlight. If not, it
could be one of 2 things. Either the computer isn't starting up, or
the screen itself has a bad connection or has given out. My guess is
it's just the backlight, and if so, you should be able to order one in
the range of 50 bucks and have someone install it for you. Shouldn't
take more than an hour or 2 labour.

ok, Just start it up and take notice to the sound of the laptop. It
should normally make a slight grinding/clicking sound which comes from
the hard drive(Especially while going into windows. I'm not talking
the fan noise. See if you can hear that, there should also be a
harddrive light on the laptop somewhere that blinks very fast while
the computer is loading up. Check either of those for the first 30
seconds to a minute while it's on and see if it's doing that. If it
is, it's likely the monitor connection to the motherboard. If it's
not, you're in bigger trouble and it would prob be cheaper to just get
a new laptop.

No problem Darryl. From the sounds of it, it could be something as
simple as a bad stick of ram(memory) or it could be something more
serious. I would try to get someone you know that is capable of just
re-seating the ram or maybe has a spare stick to give that a try. If
that's not it, with something that old, you'd be better of just
getting a new laptop. You can get them cheap now.

try hooking it up externally to a separate monitor and seeing if everything
boots up.
If everything runs normally on the monitor, then it has something to do with
the screen/connector.
If you get nothing happening on the external monitor, then you got different
problems.
That's if you have a monitor to test. Let me know if you need a monitor to
use.

tride it an dit still does nothing,

i have been told the hd is shot so i jsut had a friend try to fix that
and he couldnt so now i am selling a broken laptop with no hd for 20
bux for parts and ram
lol
