__________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4613 (20091116) __________
The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus.
Walmart better change their policies on this. With privacy
regulations in Canada now, they could get into some serious hot water
by re-selling laptops/computers with private information on them.
When I worked at Future Shop, it was mandatory that whatever was
returned was sent back to the tech room for a full diagnostics and to
do a secure wipe of the hard drive before re-loading the factory
image. As with any process, some did slip through the cracks from
time to time, but, it was a very important issue and was stressed
endlessly.
Obviously Walmart doesn't have any sort of technical department, so
they have no one there to wipe out these returns. By all rights,
WalMart should send all returned Laptops/Computers to a central
location for diagnostic/wipe/reload. It may cost a bit of money, but
would probably be much less than what a law-suit would cost.
