Here are the highlights from a trip around the loop. Essentially we
spent most time on the Bear Cove Point Road and the St. Shott's
sodfarm.

Bear Cove Point Road - there were several good flocks along the road.
Many of the standard breeding warblers were seen (10 species). Of
note was a PRAIRIE WARBLER. Dave and Jen saw some good ones too but
we'll let them tell you! We also had 3 Red-eyed Vireo and a Baltimore
Oriole.

St. Shott's - not a great diversity of shorebirds nor great numbers.
About equal numbers of Black-bellied and American Golden Plovers but
perhaps only 25-30 in total. A total of at least 14 Buff-breasted
Sandpipers (possibly 19) but the highlight was a WILSON'S PHALAROPE.

Saw 5 Northern Harrier in the St. Shott's area along with a Northern
Goshawk. There were 5 Common Eider off the St. Shott's lighthouse.

Forgot to mention we also saw the Brown-headed Cowbird in PCS.

In addition to the birds above Jen and I had a Yellow-breasted Chat
and a Nashville Warbler on Bear Cove Pt Rdand 14 species in total.

We had Baltimore Oriole in the tuck an Cape Race Rd and a Bobolink on
the hillside at Long Beach. There were also scattered groups of
Whimbrels along the Cape Race Rd and we found a nice group of 11
Willow Ptarmigan,all still in full breeding colors.I was told by Cliff
Doran that there were a few hundred shorebirds at Long beach on
saturday afternoon,this group was reduced to only about 30 when were
there.

We also made the trip to the sod farm and had the same birds,as
mentioned above. We can confirm that there were 19 Buff-breasted
Sandpipers- a new high for a single location??We checked for
shorebirds at all the best known locations,finding only only standard
species.
