REDWING at Trepassey Tuesday @ about 3 pm. On west side of harbour on
the little diversion road by former Fish Plant. A group of us were
alerted to Robins and waxwings in the area by Cliff Doran via Dave
Shepherd. Took a while to find the birds because they were quiet at
first. We were looking down over the slope between the diversion road
and the FIsh Plant Parking lot for about 15 minutes before I saw
REDWING full side on view in nice light for 2 seconds. Then for next
15 minutes Seven people were looking over the side at waxwings and
robins when the REDWING flew into sight on the ground for 2 seconds.
This time seen by Bruce Di Labio, Dave Brown and myself. Took another
15 minutes for the next view just by myself for 2 seconds. Then in
ten minutes all the robins flew up including the REDWING and went up
over the hill and were not seen again. It was nearly roosting time.
In the end none of four tour participants saw it. There were 75
robins and 35 Cedar Waxwings. The berry trees are in thick cover so
we were only getting glimpses of a few robins at a time. Lots of
food in the area so likely to hang around.
