Over an hour and a half of observing, I saw the Northern Wheater SIX times, but was unable to get even one picture. This bird is very, very skittish. On the drive out there were Pine Grosbeaks, Purple Finch, plenty of robins and a sparrow size brown bird with a white rump on the road. I have no idea what that was and couldn't find it again.

Photos reminded me of other sightings: A Ruffed Grouse, four Savannah Sparrows, Hairy Woodpecker (drumming the pole), and Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Hi,

I too saw the Northern Wheatear many times this am. at Cape Spear. Getting a photo was difficult. I was there for abt. 2 hrs. I also saw a horned lark, several savannah sprs. several flocks of N. gannets, kittiwakes a cormorant.

Hi Lisa and Les,
Where was the Wheatear hanging out in Cape Spear?

Hi Lancy.

At first the wheatear was near the cannon on the south side of the Cape. It would fly in different locations on this side of the Cape. At one point it was near the top of the stairway leading to the lighthouse. Then it flew in the area of the whale interpretation signs. Later it flew to the nw side of the Cape. Hope this helps.

The Northern Wheatear was in the same place described by Les & Lisa this morning. I did get some photos but it was so foggy they are kinda hazy.

Hi Lisa, I don't suppose the brown bird could have been a female Wheatear could it? By the way "Wheatear" is Anglo Saxon for White-arse!

Hi,
I was at Cape Spear today between 5.30pm to 6.45 pm. Didn't see the wheatear. Saw one pipit and one savannah sparrow. Constant flow of small flocks of N. gannets.
