Wasn't planning to go farther south than Renews when I left home but
somehow ended up going all the way to Cape Race. It was good vis until
The Drook, then fog to Cape Race. Looked for the Cripple Cove YC
Night-Heron, Ignored all the warnings and walked 200 m up the Canyon
Of No Return alone, without cell phone contact and without anyone even
knowing where I was. It didn't pay off. Saw plenty of small trout
that a heron would feed on. There was a crippled Long-tailed Duck in
Cripple Cove, a female still in winter plumage and a bad right wing.

No shorebirds at Long Beach. Saw 20 Whimbrel through the fog before
Long Beach.

Bear Cove
20 Ruddy Turnstones
2 Lesser Yellowlegs
2 Sanderlings
(no shorebirds on beach on return trip)

Renews (south side only)
20 Greater Yellowlegs
1 Semipalmated Sandpiper
10 Semipalmated Plovers
9 Ruddy Turnstone

Capelin Bird feeding action very heavy off Cappahayden and medium off
Bear Cove. Low key off Portugal Cove South and Daley's Cove. Low key
off Ferryland where heavy a few days ago. Plenty of whale action
noticed from a distance (from the moving car) from Witless Bay to
Tors Cove. No shearwaters today.

The far reaching strong SW winds of the last thee days are just right
for something like a Royal Tern. The time of year couldn't be better.
