memorable occassion. As Keith previously reported, the high light of
the day was seeing the Yellow Crowned Night Heron, juvenile at Cripple
Cove. Another exciting sighting was a surprised appearance of 3
Whimbrels at Long Beach, off the Cape Race Rd. This was short lived as
these elusive birds took off , but we were able to get a few photos
of them in flight. Thanks to Keith's keen sense of direction and
aptitude for finding birds, we were able to see them again near the
road that leads to Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve.
Most of the birds we saw yesterday were between Renews and Cape Race.
For this time of the year, there were many juveniles, mainly of the
sparrow species.

CAUTION -- Be careful if you plan to find the Yellow crowned
night heron at Cripple Cove. The gorge is a dangerous place to be
