to Newton Police Department Press Group
A narcotics distribution investigation by Newton Police Detectives led
to the arrest of Kit Pittenger, a 43 year old male self-employed as a
mason and a resident of Stillwater Township. Pittenger was arrested
at approximately 4:00 PM after he arrived operating his white 1996
Dodge Ram pickup truck in the parking area behind the Division of
Youth and Family Services building located at 20 East Clinton Street
Newton. Pittenger was found to be in possession of 35 glassine bags
containing heroin with intent to distribute the illegal drugs. The
location of the arrest was also within 500 feet of Memory Park.
He was charged with the following crimes:
• Possession with intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous
Substance NJSA 2C:35-5a(1)B3 (Third Degree Crime)
• Distribution or Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
within 500 Feet of a Public Park NJSA 2C:35-7.1 (Second Degree Crime)
Pittenger was taken to Police Headquarters where warrants were
authorized and bail was set by Honorable Judge John E. Mulhern JMC at
$57,500.00 no 10%. Pittenger was then incarcerated in the Sussex
County Jail in lieu of bail.
