On Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at approximately 10:00pm, the Newton Police
Department received a report of an attempted robbery that occurred
behind a Main Street residence. Patrol Officers responded and met
with the victim, who reported that an unknown male subject grabbed her
and attempted to steal her purse from her. The victim stated that she
screamed and the actor fled the area without the victim’s purse. The
female victim was not injured as a result of the incident and no
weapons were displayed.
The actor was described as a light skinned male with a tall and
slender build. He was reportedly wearing a dark hooded jacket and
dark colored shorts and work boots. The actor was last seen running
north on Linwood Annex towards Church Street. He was seen entering
the passenger side of a dark colored Sport Utility Vehicle, which
quickly left the area heading towards High Street.
A canvass of the neighborhood resulted in several witnesses
corroborating the victim’s account of the incident. The Newton Police
Department is asking anyone who has information regarding this
incident to contact the Department’s Detective Bureau at (973)
383-2525. All information will be kept confidential.
