The Newton Police Department is investigating a series of burglaries to motor vehicles that have recently occurred on the eastern side of Town.  Nine vehicles, most of which were unlocked at the time of the burglary, were entered into by an unknown person or persons and had items stolen such as I-Pods, loose change, stereo equipment, a purse and a laptop computer.

The first two burglaries occurred to vehicles parked on Sparta Avenue and Lower Spring Street on August 27th and August 31st.  Two weeks later, on September 14th, additional burglaries/thefts began occurring to vehicles parked on Mt. View Street, Woodside Avenue, Sussex Street, Pine Street and Mason Avenue.  The last reported burglary occurred on October 1, 2009.  A work van parked on Sparta Avenue was also reported to be broken into on September 22nd and several tools and contractor’s equipment was stolen.

Police urge residents to please LOCK your vehicles and be on the lookout for any suspicious activity or persons.  Most of the burglaries occurred during the overnight hours.

Anyone with possible information about this string of burglaries or witness to any possible suspicious person or activity is asked to please call the Newton Police at 973-383-2525.
