Subject: Tip Leads to Warrant Arrest and Drug Possession Charge
On April 30, 2012 at approximately 7:42p.m., Newton Police received a
tip from a local resident to check on suspicious activity that was
reportedly occurring within the Newton Cemetery.  Officers responded
to check it out and found 3 people in a parked vehicle within the
cemetery.

Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of James D. Blades, age 27,
of Fredon-Marksboro Road, Fredon who had an active warrant out of the
Town of Newton for Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs with a bail
of $750.00 no 10%.   Additionally, Blades was found to be in
possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana which was wrapped within
a plastic wrapper and found in his pants pocket.
As a result, he was charged with:
N.J.S. 2C:35-10a(4) Possession of  a Controlled  Dangerous Substance
(Marijuana-less than 50 grams) (Disorderly Persons Offense).

Blades was processed and served before being lodged in the Sussex
County Jail in default of bail pending a 5/8/12 appearance in Newton
Municipal Court.

Officers Involved: Ptl. Mahir Kaylani, Ptl. Scott Vertetis.

The Newton Police remind the public to please notify the Police at
973-383-2525 when they observe suspicious activity…”See Something, Say
Something.”
