On May 28, 2012 at 7:39 AM Newton Police Officers responded to 96 Main Street to investigate a theft reported by Jerry Beam, the resident manager of the premises. Beam stated that during the night prior while he was sleeping, someone entered his unlocked apartment without permission and stole two pistols; a replica Colt .45 that and an antique black powder handgun.
On scene investigation led Officers to identify Robert D Loven Jr., a resident of another apartment at 96 Main Street, as the actor. Loven was located at his apartment where the Officers subsequently recovered the stolen property which was valued at less than $500.
Robert Loven Jr., age 47, unemployed, was arrested and charged with the following:
• Burglary NJSA 2C:18-2 one count third degree crime
• Theft NJSA 2C:20-3a. one count fourth degree crime
Bail was set by Hon. Judge James Devine at $50,000 no 10% option. Loven was then incarcerated in the Sussex County Correctional Facility in default of bail.
Investigating Officers were Ptl. Scott Vertetis, Ptl. Shawn Burke, Ptl. Mahir Kaylani, and Det. Joseph D’Annibale.
