Newsrob is great to view RSS-feeds to read news, but quite often when
you are about to view the full news content it spoils the experience :
(
This is not Newsrobs fault but news sites that does not supply a
mobile-adjusted version of their pages/feeds.
Therefore you have to download a lot of overhead; it takes time to
download, and you have to scroll a lot. That is not fun when reading
news on the go.
So therefore I made a litle php script that re-generates RSS-feeds
with an embedded link which will only show news content and resized
images (320px). This means you can view news item faster without
scrolling and zooming to get to the actual news content. You will also
save bandwidth as the images are also resized.

This works particular good with "Manage feed" -> "Display Web page"
setting in Newsrob.

I added a couple of popular news sites, and if there is some of
particular interest I can add some more. The user interface is locked
at moment as I have no member system.

To try it out, just choose a feed from the url below and add it to
Google news and start syncing it with Newsrob.
Here is the link:
http://kronisk.bananbox.se/betterfeed/
I know there is Google mobile web page view for this as well but I
think this should be even more streamlined :)

Droidgren,

sounds interesting. I am actually happy with what GWT renders (just could be more reliable), but anyway, I just subscribed to spiegel.de using your site and will have have a closer look.

Where are you heading with your efforts?

Cheers,
Mariano

I made it for myself and for fun to be used with NR, but since it so
easy for me to to add new feeds I decided to share it.
Perhaps Im going to add a user system so you could add your own feeds,
but I wanna see if there is an interest first. But at moment I feel
pretty much done with it. Just use it if you like it, and be happy :)

It works great.

At least over the last 12-24 hours your feed was displaying >99% of the images (all except one article) whereby GWT only managed to get it right in >90% of the cases. Pretty cool. I also subscribed to heise now and both feeds together cover 99% of my articles that I ran through GWT.

Since this morning Spiegel now renders a "mobile" version, which contains ads, navigation and unformatted text. Do you intend to keep it that way?
Btw. The space before links is missing.

I will write a short blog post today about the beta. Do you want me to mention your service? If so, should I link to this discussion or do you have a landing page with some explanation?

What about Scobleizer? http://scobleizer.com/feed
I cant get it to sync in NewsRob 3.4.0. I even gave it it's own label
and even the label doesnt even appear in NR.

What exactly are your symptoms?

Last message seems to be more than three days old. When did you subscribe? What is your capacity set to?

It's a little hard from afar to say what's going on on your phone, but I subsribed to scoble yesterday night and the articles show up fine on my phone.
Can it be that you subscribe to high traffic sites with lots and lots of articles? As the most recent article from scoble is a couple of days old, it might be that the other ones pushed out those articles.

Also do you have Google Reader friends whose name end with an s? Because there is bug in the current version that prematurely stops the sync then.

No friends yet. Just created the reader account so that i could sync
my feeds with NewsRob to the Droid.
I do subscribe to some high traffic sites (especially because of CES
right now too). But, shouldn't it at least have created the label in
NewsRob?
I'll drop my subs and only keep Scobleizer to test if it's getting
pushed out. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks!

Oh, and here's my list of subs:

Hey,

no, NewsRob doesn't really sync feeds and folders. It syncs the
articles and they contain metadata where they belong to. In NewsRob
you will only see the feeds/folders where you currently have articles
for. That even means that you won't see a folder that contains
messages, but they are all read and you are in the "hide read
articles"-mode.

Regarding your issue: You can also try to increase the capacity to
1000 or/and set the sync type to "Keep And Sync: Unread Articles
Only".

Upgraded to 3.5.0. Refreshed and still nothing.
Unsub'd all feeds but Scobleizer, cleared cache, refreshed and
Scobleizer articles appeared.
Resub'd to all feeds (incl. Scobleizer) and had issues syncing
feeds.
Logged out/Cleared Cache, killed process.
Started back up, logged in to google and refreshed...
Everything is syncing up now.

Thanks for your help and quick correspondence!

I am glad it's working now.

Nevertheless have a look at the capacity setting and the sync type setting. This may be of interest to you too.
