I was given an 800 number to call and got a recorded hold on message that was in
Arabic, no English at all, then a person answered and spoke in English when I
started to ask questions. I asked where they were, he said they were part of an
Arab settlement in British Columbia and a call center.
A very nice person from Somalia who spoke fluent Italian, she lived in an
Italian settlement in Somalia, fixed the service problems, gave me a credit, and
posted the changes so they all showed on line. All a lot better than SBC who,
when I reported the problem of MCI changing my account from SBC to MCI without
my permission and asked for assistance, told me it was an MCI problem and hung
up on me in mid sentence.
It is amazing what can happen to phone service without involvement these days
and why there is an economic turnaround and still poor job creation and steeply
reduced workforce wages as a percentage of company revenue.
I just thought everyone deserved a little nap this AM.

www.spamhippo.com - Hippo, Hippo, Croc! Crap. Hippo, Hippo, Croc! Damn. OK, OK,
best two out of three.
That sounds about the same as my experiences with SBC. Nowadays you have to call
about 10 times to reach a person who is sort of helpful. That happened to me
last time around, although she was a little too helpful in charging me for a
bunch of phone services I never ordered. That took another 10 calls to reach a
person that could remove them.
One time in the past when we switched to MCI for long distance, I remember they
took care of closing our account elsewhere. It seems odd they'd have that type
of control.

Both companies have (and regulators) have caused me grief. When I
signed up for MCI seven years ago, I was promised 5 cent weekends for
life. Then they changed to just Sundays then it was gone. Then they
said give us 2.95 a month, and you can have 7 cent a minute all day
every day. Then it became 9 cents, then 11. I lived with that. At
the time I lived is the south suburbs of Chicago, very close to
Indiana. Indiana was not long distance, and not local toll, so I paid
more money for those calls then any others! Nothing they could
do...regulations!
Then I moved to the southwest suburbs. Dropped MCI, and took SBC's
all inclusive plan. Asked them to set up my a message for my old
phone number that said call my new number. Instead, they gave me
Movers voice mail (which you have to pay for), and then misprogrammed
my voice mail. I removed movers voice mail, but it took a week to get
a forwarding message. Phew...I thought I was done....NOT!
I also called to cancel my SBC DSL. They said I could have their
dial service for a month for free. I took it. I cancelled within the
month. They still billed me for both DSL and Dial! I called again,
and got credits. But they also kept my e-mail accounts for another
month!
Too top it off (if your still awake), they gave me a bill, and then a
final bill which included the first bill. Both had different due
dates, and since I was on direct debit, I was not concerned. But I
should have been, as each bill was debited. Do you get your money
back, no? It gets applied toward your next bill. At least the
following bill was only -$2.00! ARGH!
This is for those who wanted two naps today!

Yep, your story is all too common. You end up spending so much time chasing
these guys around, that I think a lot of their revenue is based on people just
giving up.
Mike
It is through UCN/Buyers United & LowerMyBills.com. Average a bit over
four cents per minute [rate in state and out is different.] Phone
companies wanting me to switch give up.
And both our phone lines are on it and we get one bill for both.
Their carrier is Global Crossing. Which may be why the rates are low???
Anyway, I'm happy with it except that they didn't do my calling card
correctly at first [that is higher per minute anyway, but they did
something wrong and it wasn't activated when I needed it.]
. But they actually answer the phone. And fix things.
Ahem! And I wasn't even going to post this, I really like them. But I do
get a $10 credit for referral if you get service by calling
1-877-UCN-5050. And, so do you! If you give my name of course. If you
don't want to do that, the service is worth getting anyway.
