New Yorkers, show up to PROTEST the new op-scans!

On Dec. 15, 2009, the NY State Board of Elections certified

the two optical scanners that it has spent years testing.

The scanners had not passed all their tests, but they "substantially comply" with NY State's requirements for new voting equipment.

Commissioner Douglas Kellner testified on Nov. 12* that the

cost of running elections with the new equipment will double

in small counties, and will rise 15-20% in New York City.

The NY City Board of Elections will show the two new scanners to the public this week and next.

The schedule is below.

They will hold a hearing on 12/29 to get the public's opinion of which scanner to purchase.

The NYC Commissioners will vote in public on 1/5/10 on which new scanner to purchase.

The NYC Board of Elections has arranged for 5 demonstrations of the new
optical scanners beginning Dec 16 and ending Dec 22.

On Tuesday Dec 29 they will hold a hearing to get the public's opinion
on which scanner to select to replace NYC's lever voting machines.
