Finding specific post in heavily used newsgroups?

I use Xnews and am wondering if there is an easier way to find a
specific post in a newsgroup that is used heavily (alt.binaries.tv). The
way I do it now (after finding the post date in Newabin.com) is do an
alt/enter on the group which brings up the "set number of headers to
retrieve" window.
Then I move the sliders and start the load, trying to find the correct
date. If the date is wrong, I stop the header download and move the sliders
a little to try again. Trial and error is the method I use. This is time
consuming especially with groups with millions of posts. Is there an easier
way?

Bada bing Dozer <su...@nomail.com> bada bang:

Yes, especially if you know the subject of the post in question.

If your server supports it you can use an XPAT search, or if
you've already downloaded the post, use the filters.

You can find out how with the an important technique known as
RTFM.

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice they are not.

CtS, what disparity do you notice in your post?

What do you expect from someone whose reading comprehension
borders on nonexistent?

I'd settle for an occasional admission of error from CtS. :-)
