I don't think this is a very good idea because there is already
considerable fragmentation and dilution of marine interests in the
newsgroups. I was involved with the establishment of
sci.engr.marine.hydrodynamics (in favour of) to meet the interests not
only of theoreticians but also practical engineers. As a newsgroup it is
very lightly used, and could (and should) easily handle the traffic
generated by marine engineers. The content would change slightly, but the
audience is much the same.
