The three-week voting period ended as scheduled at 23:59:59 GMT on June
17. During that time, 215 valid votes were received and counted using Ron
Dippold's UseVote system. The final tally was follows:

Short commentary on the comp.databases.pick vote

The voting was remarkably uneventful. Five votes were received in an
invalid or undecipherable format and were 'bounced' with acknowledgement
to that effect by UseVote; all five were returned by their authors with
correct votes. Four duplicate votes with addresses identical to the
original vote's address were received after the second CFV; by the voting
rules of the CFV only the last (second) vote was counted in each case.

No voters reported that the UseVote-generated acknowledgement of their
vote was wrong, so I think I am fairly safe in assuming that the count
reported above (with full voter detail below) is completely correct. The
standard five-day waiting period for any corrections or questions about
the vote will be observed, however, and if no problems are noted, the
control message will be issued to create the group shortly afterwards.

CHARTER

"comp.databases.pick" will be a newsgroup for the discussion of the
creation, administration, and use of the multitude of databases,
operating systems, and applications environments which are generally
known as "Pick-compatible", "Pick-like", "Pick-inspired", or "post-
relational". These include, at the least:

- The Pick Operating System (aka "Pick R83" and "Advanced Pick")
- Vmark's _Universe_ environment
- Unidata's _Unidata_
- Revelation Technologies' _Advanced Revelation_ and "Rev G" products
- Prime Computer's _Prime Information_ system
- The PI/Open environment (developed by Prime, now owned by Vmark)

This discussion will include, but not be limited to, programming theory
and practice, database design techniques, efficient construction of
application systems, practical system and database administration,
experiences with and differences between various Pick-type products
and implementations, technical questions and advice, and announcements
of upcoming conferences, trade shows, and new products relevant to the
Pick marketplace.
