Subject: Google News stopped crawling our news articles
I recently posted this inquiry in another discussion forum (before I
knew about this one):

About a month ago Google News stopped picking up our news articles. We
recently moved to a new CMS and our URL format has changed. No, we are
not yet using a sitemap (and we never have before), but hope to do so
soon.

Here is an example of our old URL format -
http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/20080501-1612-bn01bavasi.html.

Here is an example of our new URL format -
http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2008/nov/13/padres-towers-broa...

I've repeatedly told our technical and content crews that we need to
place our content in appropriate folders within our site architecture
and that we need to go back to using a unique 3- or 4-digit number for
each article, but...

So my question is, is that really the problem or is there anything
else I'm overlooking.

=====

I received a reply telling me that yes, we needed to get that unique
3-
digit number in there. However, shortly thereafter one of my IT folks
noticed that another newspaper's site is being crawled and indexed in
Google News that uses the same URL structure that we are. No unique 3-
or 4-digit number. So...now I'm not sure what the deal is.

Again, here is an example of our new URLs -
http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2008/nov/13/padres-towers-broa...

And here is an example from the Lawrence Journal -
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/nov/05/captains_comeback/?sports

I would really appreciate any feedback or insight I can get about
this. Thanks!

Hi!
We had the same problem after we made som changes in our design.
Researched till my fingers and eyes bled, without any luck, until I
comparred our site to another similar news site. It turned out, our
design structure lacked a clear definition of where the actual
articles bodytext ended and the extra functions(comments, factboxes
and so on) started. Once I fixed that, i.e. clearly defining title,
preamble and bodytext with separate div-elements, our articles began
reappering on the newslist again.

Hope this helps you, I know it can be frustrating.

THANK YOU! I really appreciate the advice and I will pass this along

One other comments I have seen in this group is to use a news sitemap
to overcome the 4 digit code issue.

As per my view.
you can changed from www to www3
So, you are on a new sub domain.

Google News crawler won't jump subdomains, unless you request google
team to review the new sub domain.
