It would be nice if Google would just make a separate category for
Science news, as the Sci/Tech category is so overflowing with
Technology news that there is never any Science news. I'm talking
about global warming, pollution, new fossils, geology, chemistry,
research science, new genes discovered, glaciers, etc. With the
latest from Sony, Windows, Wiki, etc. clogging the list I never see
anything that isn't Technology.
I even tried making a personlaized category, but "-tech, -web, -
broadband, -search, -wiki, -windows, -google" still turned up only
technology articles.
Here's hoping for more balanced news in the future.
our problem is not about sciece and technology, as it appeared. it is
science and technology,
that soslved problem. please check the historical path. Our real
problem is philosophy, which
is ignored by leading thinkers.Philosophy is not on list of daily talk
or knews item is our real
real problem.

Thanks for these suggestions! We're always looking at ways to allow
users to better target the news that's import to each them, so hearing
what you're looking for can be really helpful for us. In the meantime,
using personalized sections as seldemer suggests is probably the best
option.
Seldemer, since it sounds like you're still not getting the science
focus you want, you might try reversing your strategy; try creating
new sections based on the areas that _do_ interest you (eg. global
warming, pollution, geology, etc.).
As for bharat mani, maybe there's a particular news source that
focuses on the content you're looking for? You might try a custom
section based on the search [ site:URL ] (with "URL" being the URL to
your favorite philosophy news site).
While we're working on some more long-term options, these ideas might
give you some more success in the meantime.
I customized my Google News (it's my home page) a few months back and
am astonished at the disproportion of
skeptical articles, satire, and opinion, despite the preponderance of
evidence to the contrary. Methinks Google has PROGRAMMED it such to
service the bone head readers who question science. Normally this
would be a small issue, but considering the traffic on Google and
Google News, this is tantamount to propaganda. Google News shouldn't
be a business merely serving consumers, but a public service informing
the citizenry.

I'm not sure I believe in the conspiracy theory to all this, but I
agree with seldemer that the tech articles seem to dominate the sci/
tech category. Science articles are amongst my favourite, and
technology ones amongst my least favourite, so on an average day that
makes google news not a very satisfying experience. Have you
considered using the BBC news website? They have separate science/
nature and tech categories. I realise that, as a massive corporation,
someone like google can't respond to, probably very indvidualistic,
users' needs irrespective of the income they expect each group to
generate, so I think that it's not really best to carry on going on
about it, or petitioning, or anything silly like that, I don't think.
But I've voted on their suggestion form for the split (they've a
special option for it on their support form, so I can't be the only
one, :)).
Actually, not only is there virtually no science news in Sci/Tech,
there's virtually no "tech" news either.
As I write this, the top 3 stories are about Facebook, MySpace, and
Grand Theft Auto IV. What do any of these
things have to do with tech? If I go to a 'tech' news site, I expect
to find news about the latest advances in
technology. The Google news staff seems to think that news about any
company that has a web page qualifies
as 'tech' news. It's insulting to the intelligence of their readers.
If Scientific American started filling their
magazines with articles about MySpace and Facebook, I'd cancel my
subscription and so would everyone else.
Instead of splitting Sci/Tech into two categories, Google should
create a separate 'internet' news category,
and stop polluting the Sci/Tech category with news about MySpace.
