There are a lot of unknowns here, but I will make a few comments anyway and risk it. (SMILE)

First, chapters in Garageband are NOT the same as "tracks" as far as I can tell. Each "track" would be an individual MP3 (I think they may want a higher quality initially through). As far as I know, you have to deal with a distributor to put things in the iTunes store and not Apple directly, so it would help to know which distributor you are working with.

That said, the distributor should be able to charge whatever they want for the entire audio tour as one piece, not just $.60. If that is what they are telling you then they need to have better systems as it sounds like they are trying to shoehorn you into their standard model. Again, I don't have much information, but that is what is sounding like.

For me, I would like to see it sold as individual tracks, but with an album price where you purchase the entire tour for one, discounted, price. Having individual tracks allows the buyer to then listen to whichever sections they wish, in whatever order they wish. This is typically how you will see it with a musuem tour, such as the Western Heritage Museum here in LA

If you have any more info, bring it along to the chat tonight and I can comment further or post it on the discussion forums where everyone can have a whack at it.

Hi Doug!

What a great idea!  I'll be tuning in tonight.

I have a question - A friend of mine spent 8 years as head of the Clinton White House Visitor's Bureau and we have done a recorded tour of the White House on my Mac.

She sent it to iTunes to put it up for sale as there is no other White House audio tour available.  They told her the royalty would only be $0.60 unless it was divided into "tracks" and then they could charge $0.60 per track.

I have since made it into 14 "Chapters" in Garage Band.  I wonder if anyone has had experience with this in the past.  Are "Chapters" the same as their idea of "tracks?"  Or, do I create a separate MP3 for each chapter and send them to iTunes one at time? In this event, how do I indicate that it is all part of one "album?"

They have not responded when we have asked these questions.  I hate to spend time moving forward on this until I am sure of what format will be acceptable.  If anyone has sent them a music album, I would assume it might be the same thing???  Any ideas?

Cheers!
Alice

Great Doug!  Thank you.

She does not have a distributor, but was going to distribute it on both iTunes and her web site.  It had me going nuts because Track" to me meant one of many that we edit together with music and effects to get the final sound "track."  These days language only goes so far...

I'll be interested to tune in tonight to see what other people have had as experience in this area.
