Our Murphy is going to be a newbie with a recurring role on Dexter...

New Female Faces on 'Dexter,' 'Eureka' - Ever Carradine and Valerie Cruz are heading to cable roles

...Cruz will play the wife of Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado. That high-profile role was recently filled by Jimmy Smits.

Cruz has been seen in "Hidden Palms" and "The Dresden Files," as well as the upcoming feature "La Linea."

New info about scifi.com - These are the most popular words visitors are searching for when ending up at scifi.com: http://www.quantcast.com/scifi.com

Audience Keywords: The audience keywords list shows keywords a site's audience tends to type in. These are often but not always the keywords that brought people to the site. The frequency represents how much more often members of this audience use those keywords compared to an average internet user.

Per other statistics on the same page, 100 is considered average...

One Year,

The Entertainment Industry is unique and warped as no other industry in the world is. One year in that industry is a very acceptable delay. Movie and TV series ideas are bought months and sometimes years before they move on to the next step. There can even be delays between hiring the actors and actual fliming. There can be delays in the middle of filming and even after filming is completed. I've discovered all of this since the start of the Save Dresden Campaign - what an eye-opener!

In any case, the fact that it has been a year since the last episode of the Dresden Files is not a cause for despair! Add in the writer's strike and the time period is even more reasonable. SO, VOTE in the Poll and give us an idea of how many will help put the pressure on the Execs at Sci-Fi to renew the excellent series

A staunch Dresden Files fan & supporter has posted a list of successful series returns or spin-offs which is very encouraging.

May 1, 2008 -

For those who may not know, Paul Blackthorne - who we all know does such an excellent job as Harry Dresden - is a fantastic photographer in addition to being such a talented actor!

His website carries some of his photos, current work, and interests, plus if you sign up, sends an e-mail when new photos or content have been added.

I just received one and thought I'd share:

Hello one and all.

Just to let you know of some updates on the website:
There are ten new pictures; I do hope one or two don't offend too much.....

A biography update, and a new page - Other People's Words.

Having attended the writing classes of Jack Grapes recently I was privileged to hear other student's wonderful work.

Here are some of my favourites......

Also, the reel has been updated to include a little 'Big Shots' and some 'Lipstick Jungle'

Thank you as ever for the input into the website, your comments and resources suggestions are much appreciated.

All the best
Paul Blackthorne

Check it out - its a great site!!

Upfront Updates

All the articles so far are talking about new planned series and only mention the 'reality' series that are returning, not the scripted ones that are, so don't lose hope.

Keep writing - Decisions are being made!!

March 6, 2008 - UPDATED 4/15

Hey!NielsenDresden Files has gained back to 17th overall! Please keep it up - decisions are STILL being made! Show them how excellent a series the Dresden Files truly is!

For those who may not be aware, the Nielsen folks have an internet site – Hey!Nielsen – for any and all viewers to post their choices & opinions on everything from web sites to music. The site seems to be doing very well and, at least according to Nielsen, is being reviewed by advertisers and the entertainment industry folks.

This is great news – for Nielsen and us – because the Dresden Files TV series has been there from the first few days of the site’s existence! Hey!Nielsen ranks submissions by using news articles in trade magazines, blog posts, time, and comments and reactions on the site itself. With Dresden being off the air, it doesn't get many news articles, so we fans & viewers are the only things that have kept the Dresden Files in the and near the Top 10 – including 19 days as #1!

Being in the Top 10 means valuable visibility all over the ‘Net, so keeping it there is very important. It’s easy - just go to: http://www.heynielsen.com; Create an account; RATE the Dresden Files; Post one Opinion if you haven’t already; Rate Up the series by clicking 'REACT' on the Opinions posted by others; Comment on the Opinions of others that you agree with!

Paul Blackthorne, Terrence Mann, and Valerie Cruz also have spots on Hey!Nielsen – so leave your Opinion on their acting skills and/or their characters and Rate Up the folks who so expertly bring our favorite wizard, snarky ghost, and tough detective to life!

As with any other site, there are H!N trolls – folks who never leave their own Opinion, but React negatively to every other Opinion posted on a topic. Their goal seems to be to lower the rating of the targeted subject(s). We TDF viewers are a considerate and well-behaved lot and don’t seem to do vindictive postings – YAY us! – but the Dresden Files has off and on been targeted by trolls.

Please take the time to Rate and Comment on the Opinions that you agree with. Based on comments posted on the Petition, folks have found the DVD’s and the books through comments they read on H!N, so help introduce others to the Dresdenverse! Besides, you never know when someone important could be reading.

Hey!Nielsen Guidelines:

H!N views one person posting multiple Opinions on the same subject (series, band, game, etc.) or Opinions that are campaign-based and not series- or show-based as Spam. HOWEVER, if it has been a while since you've posted an Opinion on the series, then it is certainly acceptable to post another Opinion as long as it is based on the show.

H!N also says that it’s best to just RATE the show/actor/actress/song/etc. and then React and Comment on the Opinions of others if we don't have a 'different' or unique statement to make as an Opinion.

Podcast Interview with Mr. Wolfe - UPDATED

Mr. Robert Wolfe, Executive Producer and Writer of the Dresden Files TV series, did a podcast interview with David Simkins (also an Exec. Producer on the Dresden Files) and Marc Zicree in early February that was posted on February 14, 2008.

It's a kind of long interview - 1 hr 26 min. - covering several series and topics, but there's quite a bit concerning the Dresden Files with insight from within the show. Check it out:

The Zicree Simkins Podcast

The main discussion concerning the Dresden Files starts at approximately 56 min. into the interview. I've also transcribed the largest Dresden Files part - you can read it HERE.

The Dresden Files on The Eye!

My youngest & her bf just went to see The Eye and the main character is watching TV, flipping channels, after she has her new eyes and guess what is playing??!!

Yup - the Dresden Files!! One scene is where Bob is writing the formula in the air in Harry's lab in Birds of a Feather! And the other scene is Harry taking the ticket off his Jeep!!

THANK YOU LIONSGATE!!! biggrin.gif

Hey, Sci-Fi! Now you can say, "Dresden Files - as seen in The Eye!!"

Bonnie Hammer steps down as Sci-Fi President:

Dave Howe flies to top of Sci Fi
Hammer steps back from day-to-day control
By JOSEF ADALIAN

Dave Howe has been beamed up to prexy of Sci Fi Channel, with longtime Sci Fi chief Bonnie Hammer stepping back from day-to-day control of the channel she helped build into a basic cable powerhouse.

I'm not sure what this means for either the Sci-Fi Channel or for the Dresden Files considering:

Sci-Fi's only found statement about the Dresden Files non-renewal:
"We had incredibly high hopes for Dresden, but Dresden just didn't find its audience' we thought it would be broader than it was and it didn't attract as many new viewers to the network as we needed it to do," Howe (executive vice president and general manager of Sci-Fi Dave Howe) said. "We just weren't convinced that strategically it was the right show to invest in that would continue to broaden and grow the network beyond our core audience."

Digg the article about Mr. Howe & maybe leave a comment encouraging better quality programming. :)

REPLY Received From GE Exec!!! -  We've worked SO hard it's AWESOME to see positive results!!! THANK YOU to everyone who's taken their time and used some of it to save this excellent show!!Now both Lionsgate & GE have replied favorably toward the renewal of the Dresden Files! Let them know just how serious we are by sending in your letters for the Anniversary Campaign!!

Received in yesterday's mail by AttilaTheNun and signed by a GE Exec.:

"Thank you for your correspondence regarding "the Dresden Files". We will certainly consider your request to put the show back on the SciFi Channel. We appreciate your comments and suggestions."

Below is ATN's letter-writing program - its exemplary and one we could all copy!biggrin.gif

- I divided the contacts list up into groups: NBC Universal, GE, The SciFi Channel, & Lionsgate.
- At least every other week, I've tried to send a letter to one of these groups. I send the same letter, with minor variations, to everyone on that contact list.

    • In every letter I mention what an excellent, well-written, perfectly-cast show TDF was;
    • How, in spite of the SciFi Channel's lack of promotion, TDF was one of Sci-Fi's best-rated shows;
    • How its ratings gained steadily;
    • How interesting its episodes were;
    • How the TDF fanbase is still growing internationally;
    • Is popular with a wide age-range of both men and women;
    • And that the fans are ready and waiting to begin watching any channel that could announce when it would begin airing new episodes of The Dresden Files!€

    I also mention that a large group of fans can be contacted at dresdencity.org or by Googling "blue whale pub".

    I don't know which points got the response; Maybe he just replied hoping that if he did, I'd shut up! wink.gif

    Canada Airs the Original 2hr Pilot: Storm Front!

    Saturday & Sunday, January 5th & 6th, Space Channel in Canada aired the full two-hour Storm Front. Storm Front was intended to be a 2hr movie which Sci-Fi later changed into the Dresden Files Series. Instead of airing the 2hr version of Storm Front as the series pilot, they had the movie cut up, spliced with scenes from the newly filmed episodes, and aired as Episode 8 of Season 1. Lionsgate has now distributed the 2hr version of Storm Front in Canada, New Zealand, and other countries.

    Please write Sci-Fi and ask/demand that the 2hr version of Storm Front be aired here in the U.S.!!

    Sci-Fi Channel Ratings!!

    WooHooo!!

    The last repeat of the Dresden Files for 2007 - a repeat without advertising - tied in ratings with the much touted ECW and beat a repeat episode of the agressively advertised Flash Gordon!! Send off an e-mail to feedback@scifi.com and tell them this isn't a fluke - we ARE & WILL BE watching!

    Three new Vice Presidents at Sci-Fi Channel -

    The SCI FI Channel has promoted two of its original programming executives -- Erik Storey and Tony Optican -- to SVP and has added Chris Sanagustin to the team as the Channel's new VP of Development. All three are based in Los Angeles and will continue to develop the channel's award-winning slate of original series and long-form projects.

    Further coverage...

    I've added their contact info on the Who & Where to Write thread - write them a nice card, letter, or postcard and congratulate them on their new positions and encourage them to help renew the Dresden Files!

    REPLY RECEIVED from Lionsgate! -I'm posting this reply from Lionsgate that was received via snail mail by a fellow fan - THANK YOU LIONSGATE!!!

    It's fantastic that Lionsgate has taken the time to respond to their fans & customers!!

    "Thank you for your support of The Dresden Files. The series has received a great deal of popular attention, but it has not, as yet been renewed. We hope that it may someday soon return to air, but we have in the meantime released season one on DVD.

    Again, we thank you for your support of the series."

    This is not a Cease-&-Desist-Your-Cause-Is-Hopeless letter (thank goodness!). Instead this letter isespecially encouraging and for several reasons:

    • Money is tight for the entertainment industry, yet Lionsgate showed respect for its customers and sent a reply that required postage to at least two TDF fans.

    • Our message is apparently being heard, as the letter states that the Dresden Files "has received a great deal of popular attention".

    • Lionsgate is apparently still open & willing to create more seasons and hope for renewal is apparently still alive or the reply "has not, as yet been renewed. We hope that it may someday soon return to air" most likely would have been more like: 'unfortunately there are no plans for a second season/renewal at this time/in the foreseeable future.'

    • Also, the episodes on DVD were still referred to as 'season one'.J

    This is a excellent little early Holiday present! Again:Thank You Lionsgate!!

    Now, let's show just how 'popular' this series is by getting EVERYONE to the scifi.com/dresden forum for the DVD View-Ins, and make a SPECTACULR impression!! J

    Lipstick Jungle: For those who haven't heard, Paul Blackthorne has gotten the part of the husband of Brooke Shield's character on Lipstick Jungle. This is a mid-season series re-release on NBC (owner of Sci-Fi Channel), so it will pose no problem with filming the Dresden Files when we get it back on the air. PLUS, this is a full cast member role for PB whereas Big Shots is a recurring role so, GREATfor PB!!! We can't have the man starve while waiting for the wheels of the entertainment industry to turn.
