I pulled my OSD2 off the shelf yesterday and heard rattling -- when I
opened it up, the serial connector was laying next the board.

I see several other posts about this, but no resolution -- has anyone
been able to fix this? I tried unsuccessfully to re-solder.

One time this happened to me I was able to have it resoldered
(by someone with more skill than me with soldering iron).

But maybe your board is more damaged than mine was.

Just saying that I know for a fact it's possible to re-solder the
serial connector successfully in some cases.

Seems serial and ir-blaster sockets is a weak place in OSD2 mechanical
design.
Mine went off too once. I succesfully re-soldered it back and glued
with enough amount of glue to prevent falling off in the future.
There are only three contacts to be re-soldered. All of them are
visible and in case if wires also got broken it is still possible to
sold extra piecese of wire to fix it.

Mine too and I had someone resolder it to the board. If you have a
spare/old neuros osd2 prototype it should be possible to transplant
one from the old board ;)

Did you ever get this fixed? If not, let me know and I'll get you a
new carrier board.
