Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd say that PPP features are compiled as modules
by default. Have a look again at your kernel configuration - if I'm
correct, just recompile the modules too and copy them to you uSD card.

Antonio

Ok I have a theory about this problem.

Checking the signals at bit level with an oscilloscope I didn't find
any timing problems (just +1.1% at 9600 baud)
or spurious characters sent to the bus.

I think the problem is another.

The RS485 chip Drive Enable signal on DAISY-10 is active when in HI

I did the first test using the Python program in attach and the timing
seems to be good (9730 baud instead of 9600 = 1.1% faster ).

Could be useful to verify with your oscilloscope the timing also with
just one 0x55 character (setting tokenlen=1 in the source example).

The bit timing on my Terra board is 102.95uS

 Hi Yves,

we have analysed the electrical signals of the data transmission with an
oscilloscope and not seen any significant difference between the
Daisy-10 module and the USB-RS485 converter. The communication seems to
be correct at this level. However our software receives one extra byte

Thanks a lot for your reply Ondrej,

I'm happy to know that I'm not completely crazy and that other people had
the same issue.

I will buy a USB to RS485 as you suggest, but it's a pity that what is sold
by ACME system doesn't work... or at least doesn't work properly.

Do you know where I can send a complain (gently) for the serial Linux Driver

 Dear friends and colleagues,
as I promised I tried to collect some more data. The problem is still
there, but the way it appears begins to circumscribe.
As I mentioned on an earlier post, the essence of the problem is I get a
message
"kernel does not support PPP filtering"
even if PPP filtering is enabled. The reasons it did happen were totally

 Thank for your quick answer!

Well, I've done... Or to be more precise, I "think" having done. In some
way I haven't, however...

I try to explain a bit more quietly.

My first kernel compile did not include PPP filtering. Thank you, Mike, for your quick reply!

The modem is connected to ttyS1. I'm not using the Daisy connector, but a
card my company developed for a specific application. Basically the card
cares of serial line routing, providing a nearby power source to the modem,
and giving a minimal (to date) EMC protection.

 Hi Yves,

we had similar issues here communicating at 9600baud with a Modbus
device, using the daisy-10 RS485 module. Higher baudrates worked fine.
We couldn't solve the problem but the conclusion was that this seems to
be an issue with the Linux serial driver.

Just use a USB to RS485 converter. Works fine is is cheaper.
