In SM 1.18 there was an icon at the top of the e-mail/NEWS READER page
that allowed me to easily file an item in a folder. In SM 2.0 no such
icon exists and I must do Message> Move to> Mail folder> Sub-folder.

I could not find any way to restore this Icon in SM 2.0.

Is there a way to do this?

TIA,

Larry

there IS!!!?? I don't see it. What is it? The only
icons I have are Get Msgs, Compose, Reply, Reply All,
Forward, Next, Mark, Print, and Stop icons. Would this
be an addon you had? Perhaps you can make and image of
it, put it somewhere and provide a link so we can see it.

I have not put any add-on onto SM.

When in SM 1.8 Mail window go to:
EDIT> PREFERENCES there is one setup window for:
GENERAL SETTINGS
MAIL START PAGE
SELECT BUTTONS YOU WANT TO SEE IN TOOL BAR
this area has check boxes for File, Stop, Next, Junk, Print

By selecting the check box I can put the selected icon in the tool bar.
This FILE icon allows me to select all of the folders and sub folders
listed on the left side of the mail window. ie: I can store an e-mail in
any of the folders.

In SM 2.0 Mail window go to:
EDIT> PREFERENCES there is one setup window for:
GENERAL SETTINGS
MAIL START PAGE

There is no SELECT BUTTONS set up area with check boxes to select File,
Stop, Next, Junk, Print

If I Right Click on the Tool Bar I can get into a Customize menu that
allows me to put a FILE icon in the tool bar but this icon does not
allow me to select all of the folders and sub folders listed on the left
side of the mail window. I can only select Recent> inbox, archives, 2009.

I found Archives and 2009 as sub folders under Local Folders on the left
side of the mail window but I prefer to use the existing file structure
I have rather than transfer all my files into the Archives sub folder.

I hope this explanation is a little clearer. If you need an image I
will try to set one up.

Got it working. After setting up the file Icon on the mail tool bar I
had to close the mail window and then reopen it. All my files now
appear when I click the file icon.

my shortcomings. I've had that icon unchecked and
never used it. To me, clicking on the message and
dragging it to the folder I want works a lot faster
than what your propose.

Anyways, I don't know. They have removed certain items,
perhaps this is one of them. Any ways, try this: in
the address bar type in about:config and look for this
entry:

mail.toolbars.showbutton.file

double click on the and change it to true. You may
have to restart the mail part.

I removed that pref in SeaMonkey 2.0. It's now controlled by the
context->Customize... window.
