I am having some problems with Thunderbird 2.0.0.23.
Downloading groups for offline use is slow. Headers load with max.
bandwith, but msgs itself with about 40kbps / ca. 2 - 4 per second.
Is this a bug in Thunderbird or due to the nntp-protocoll with my slow
(GPRS/EDGE-) Internet connection?
ping to newsserver:
Minimum = 222ms, Maximum = 326ms, Mittelwert = 255ms
Minimum = 213ms, Maximum = 728ms, Mittelwert = 436ms
CPU-load is below 40%, i/o-load around 50% says ProcessHacker.
Are there alternatives? (direct mbox-download etc.)
Thanks,

you says you "slow GPRS/EDGE-) Internet connection"
Anyways, pinging them doesn't prove anything. It just
means YOU can connect to them. It doesn't show that
THEY can connect to you.
Since you didn't mention which news server, I'm going
to assume its eternal-september.org, so why don't you
contact them and ask them?: eternal.september.support

Not only with this newssserver, but also with some other newsservers
(eg. news.arcor.de) dl'ing is slow so I assume its not the servers
itself. Transferrates are somewhat constant. And there are frequent
timeouts.

maybe its your connection
have you tried another program to see if it is your
connection or Thunderbird? Have you tried TB in safe
mode? Have you tried TB in a test profile?
