I have been using Mozilla for a while for email and news groups on a
dual boot pc and just got another pc that I have set up using Knoppix
and a hard disk install so it is essentially a debian install.

Despite searching mozilla and knoppix sites and searching google, I just
can't get my email collection, folders, etc over to the new machine.

I have set up a router and have the tcp/ip networking going and have set
up the old pc as an nfs server and the new one as a client. It all
works, I can trasfer files at will from the old machine to the new one.

If I just copy the whole profile over and delete xul files,
localstore.rdf, etc, and generally follow all intructions on
http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.0/faq/mail-news.html#3.7

for either a complete back up of the whole profile or just the
particular files, I still have the same problem.

I just can't get it to recognize the profile.

If I open a terminal in /home/ken'.mozilla and run
mozilla -profilemanager
from root, I can actually get my whole profile up and runing with all my
files, but then I am in root.

When I do it from my regular user account, I get into a catch22 of that
profile already exists or if I get rid of it, it just comes up empty.

Stuck . . .

Any suggestions???

Who owns the files, root or your user account? If it's root, are the
files readable and writable by other users? It might be better to change
the owner of the files to your user account.
