Setting the colors more like I want them

I had this working for FF2 under Win98SE, but on XP I can't get it to
work as I want.

The problem is that on pages like google websearch, the difference in
color between a visited link and an unvisited one is too small, purple
versus some shade of blue.

In Options/Content/Colors I changed the color for visited links to
orange, which is easy to disstinguish from the other color, but this
change has no effect unless I also uncheck "Allow pages to choose
their own colors, instead of my selections above"

If I uncheck that box, ALL the webpages look inferior, without many
colors If I click on the cached version of the google web results,
the search words would normally be highlighted in the text of the
page, each word in a different color, but becauase the extra colors
are gone, there is NO indication at all of where the search words are
found. I use that all the time (and it's good) so I can't uncheck the
box.

Yet I had this all working in FF2.

Help, please!

I don't know cause I don't use those settings.
Instead, I've downloaded and installed the addon
Stylish:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108 and
learned how to manipulate the page to look the way "I"
want it by using some of the scripts here:

So far so good. Thanks a lot.

For other readers:

I had to install the add-on before it handled the script correctly.

I had to read a bunch before I realized one was supposed to search for
scripts by keyword and there seemed to be no overall list.

I chose color of visited links for unruly urs. Unless I edit it,
it only affectts about 12 domains but the description mentions that
google is one of the two worst offenders, and that's the same one I
mentioned and I have trouble with.

So it only took 15 minutes and it's in and visited links in google now
appear red.

I'm very happy. Thanks a lot.

I can edit the script I guess, to add other domains or change to a
different color but I don't know where to find the script or how to
edit it. The options item for this add-on is greyed out.

down in the bottom right hand corner of the browser,
there should be a little icon. If you hover your mouse
over it, it should say Stylish. So you not see that?
Can you not modify the scripts from there?

Yes, you can add, change, modify, or even create some
of your own. You can also change the colors if you
want to.

I saw the grey box but it didnt' do any hover talking. And there are
a lot of strange symbols down there so I didn't attach importance to
it.

It still doesn't hover-talk, but when I right click there are a bunch
of related options. Cool! Thanks again.

>Can you not modify the scripts from there?

Yes, we can! The edit box is there now. There is no Options box
anymore, greyed out or not. Maybe because these things or at least
this one doesn't have options as such, only the option to change the
code.
