Need Help With Sun Ethernet Problems
|
| |
We have a large number of Sun workstations configured into a network of 7 file servers and approximately 50 diskless client workstations. Since installing the machines we have experienced a collection of what appears to be ethernet related problems or at least that is what the error messages on the Suns lead you to... more »

4.2BSD on HP workstation
|
| |
+++++++++++++++++++ I'm at UCLA and we would like to run 4.3 bsd on our hp 9000 workstations. Then we could attach them to the ethernet and use the RFS to get network file transparency with our other 4.3 machines, I believe. I posted a message here a while ago asking whether anyone had ported 4.3 and nobody answered yes. If someone has (and would be so kind... more »

Announcing X window system mailing lists.
|
| |
I have now had substantial numbers of requests for a mailing list on X window system related issues. I had hoped that people receiving X distributions from MIT would be kind enough to give their electronic mail addresses on the order form, but many did not, and the distribution of X on the 4.3BSD tape will result in many more distributions of X over... more »

Bad Memory in Suns - Anyone Know?
|
| |
...Your information is very old. SUN got some bad chips from Micron in Idaho (now refered to as mutant spudboy chips). Apparently there is a suit still active, but I haven't heard anything in about a year. These chips were used in some of the SUN 2's. Micron, alleged manufacturer of the allegedly defective chips,... more »

Viewpoint is similar to, but different from, Star
|
| |
One recent message implied that Xerox Viewpoint is the 1981 Star product simply renamed. Not true. As delivered, Viewpoint provides generally the same functionality, but it is noticeably faster, a good deal of the interface has been changed (e.g. overlapping windows in arbitrary positions are allowed now), and quite importantly, it has been unbundled. Star was a... more »

Sun blues.
|
| |
This may have been brought up before, but if it has, PLEEZ refer me to the article the solution is in. Hokay. I have a Sun Version 2.0 workstation and this is what I want a tool to do: 1. Emulate a terminal when open. 2. When closed, have an icon that alters. (i.e. blinks) So far, I can emulate the terminal (basically sun's "Shelltool") *alone*,... more »

Workstations (Re: <15@uw-atm.UUCP>)

This article was originally sent just to net.works on May 1. Since I do not receive net.works, please E-mail responses to me. If they are interesting enough, I will post them to Usenet. ----- I work for an Atmospheric Sciences Department. We are looking at different workstations for manipulation and display of graphical... more »

Trying to locate surveys of CAD/CAM workstations.
|
| |
A fellow I work with has asked if I knew about any surveys (even better: benchmarks) of CAD/CAM workstations. Quite naturally, I thought of all you out there in Usenet-land. Has anything appropriate been posted to this or any other newsgroup? Can you point me at someone who can help? He's not a usenet user (yet), and this site is so new that... more »
