Star Trek IV: Mini-Review
|
| |
No Real Spoilers Included. Capsule Review: a whale of a good time Star Trek IV brings back once again the whole main crew of the original series. Certainly their age is showing, but all put on good performances. This movie is easily the best of the series - much less emphasis on special effects (though those that are present are very good).... more »

Woodstock
|
| |
...Woodstock is a pop/rock-documentary. For those who still enjoy the music of the late sixties, the film would be enjoyable. On second viewing, it might even be educational. But it is not a great film. The sound recording quality was not up to our current standards, and the projected image is often fuzzy.... more »

Digital Productions was bought out.

References: You can keep up with Demos and Whitney Jr.'s new venture and Omnibus by reading the legal section in your newspaper. According to an article in the Globe and Mail a few weeks ago, the two are sueing and counter- suing each other. The best preparation for computer animation seems to be a law degree.... more »

Movies and the Middle Ages
|

...I would not get too exited. Their stuff (esp. beutiful polyphonic music) was created on the order and for consumption of, say, 0.5% of the population. The rest were too busy trying to feed themselves to feel deprived. ...The leading ideology of our age is much more enlightened. "Unalienable rights" and such. Luther was an incredible antisemite - how's that... more »

He's Fired, She's Hired
|
| |
Last night, CBS broadcast the made for TV movie "He's Fired, She's Hired." While it is obviously a pilot for a new series, what I found fascinating was for the first time someone used a computer that was not an Apple nor an IBM! What did we see but the hero doing wordprocessing on a little old Atari XL series computer! They never showed a good enough closeup to... more »

Movie sound formats
|
| |
I've been wondering about this for a long time. What are the characteristics of: 6 track dolby stereo, 4 track dolby stereo, THX sound, and dolby surround sound? Is 6 track dolby stereo 6 distinct tracks? What about 4 track stereo? Is "surround sound" an artifact of home video; I mean is this one of the other... more »

net.sf-lovers may vanish from Toronto shortly
|
| |
[Ontario distribution only] The "pesnta" site in California has been feeding net.movies and net.sf-lovers to us for the last few months. These are two groups not brought in from watmath by utzoo. pesnta is on the verge of death, and while it's functional now it could go at any time without notice (it is a candidate for spare part cannibalization!).... more »
