This would be an ALMOST (notice I said almost) impossible feat.
Have you ever looked at a
fuel injected 530i. The wiring goes everywhere, You would need a new
fuel-pump, All of the emmission control stuff is tied into the fuel
metering systems -- so you would have to add or upgrade, your
distributor probably has the wrong advance curve, and others. Also,
have you priced a complete fuel system from a wrecking yard. If you
can find a yard that will sell you a COMPLETE system, it will probably
be spendy. But I doubt that you will find anyone that will sell you a
fuel system, without buying the whole car (which is not a bad idea for
this project).
Why not spend some of that money and put a really good set of carbs
on in place of the solexes. There are a number of setups available
ranging from dual down-draft weber 2-barrels to triple side-draft
webers. When I had my 530i, my plan was to scrap the fuel system and
put the triple webers on, because the fuel system is a compromise
system to bring the emmissions into range. The performance (and in
some cases fuel efficiency) increase is phenomenal. The webers are
very nice to maintain and adjust.
If you are interested, I can send you a copy of some catalogs that
carry these products. I would also be happy to talk with you about
BMW's and I can also steer you to some people that know a lot about
these things.
