Colleges design and index their websites. This is not easy work, so
collegiate web designers get together to talk about these matters. They
even have an email discussion group, the University Web Design group
(UWEBD).

These folks are having an active discussion of the differences between a
site index and a site map on a website. Being a nice kind of person
behind that rough exterior, I thought I could pitch in and help with one
or two sources on this topic, using the old search engine approach to
learn about indexes to add a bit of heresy to the approach. Since the
overall goal of the list is college website design, I had an extra rush of
good heartedness and decided to share several sources about collegiate
website design as an added good measure of kindness. Below is the brief
list of source links I sent their way with annotation to keep the reader
abreast of the nature of the resource links I shared. I ended this post
with a very important question that you all may want to think about after
viewing where these links take you. By the way, there are people after my
own heart on this list as one of them found definitions of site map and of
site index from the Wikipedia and the Webipedia.
