Attempting to Find Some Articles Relevant to Any Interrelationship of
Celiac and Multiple Sclerosis: A Selected Group of Probative Citations

There is substantial discussion out there of a link between multiple
sclerosis and celiac disease and folks who are diagnosed with both.

Here is a site featuring just such a discussion.

Multiple Sclerosis, Does anyone have it or know of a link to celiac?

Multiple Sclerosis from Medline Plus
<http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/multiplesclerosis.html>

Also called: MS
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a nervous system disease that affects your
brain and spinal cord. It damages the myelin sheath, the material that
surrounds and protects your nerve cells. This damage slows down or blocks
messages between your brain and your body, leading to the symptoms of MS.
They can include

Visual disturbances
Muscle weakness
Trouble with coordination and balance
Sensations such as numbness, prickling, or "pins and needles"
Thinking and memory problems
No one knows what causes MS. It may be an autoimmune disease, which
happens when your body attacks itself. Multiple sclerosis affects woman
more than men. It often begins between the ages of 20 and 40. Usually, the
disease is mild, but some people lose the ability to write, speak or walk.
There is no cure for MS, but medicines may slow it down and help control
symptoms. Physical and occupational therapy may also help.

Celiac Disease from Medline Plus
<http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/celiacdisease.html>

Also called: Celiac sprue, Gluten-sensitive enteropathy, Nontropical sprue
If you have celiac disease and eat foods with gluten, your immune system
responds by damaging the small intestine. Gluten is a protein in wheat,
rye and barley. It is found mainly in foods but may also be in other
products like medicines, vitamins and even the glue on stamps and
envelopes.

Celiac disease affects each person differently. Symptoms may occur in the
digestive system, or in other parts of the body. One person might have
diarrhea and abdominal pain, while another person may be irritable or
depressed. Irritability is one of the most common symptoms in children.
Some people have no symptoms.

Celiac disease is genetic. Blood tests can help your doctor diagnose the
disease. Your doctor may also need to examine a small piece of tissue from
your small intestine. Treatment is a diet free of gluten.

One may not always find the results of Google Scholar Cited by references
useful, but the worst thing that can happen in checking them is nothing and
frequently they provide additional excellent sources related to an artcle one
searches that they find very helpful in learning about a topic they are
researching. Web of Science does citation indexing for the Arts and
Humanities, the Social Sciences and the Sciences and this tool as an
online databases costs libraries and other subscribers an enormous amount
of money. Google is providing the same type of indexing from the growing
contents of the Google database in a much simpler and hence not as
complexly searchable software, but at no cost from Google to any user in
the world.
