Russian IEL-0-VI 8 segment displays
Does anyone have any experience of these displays? As far as I can tell they are electroluminescent, and are driven from ac. I'd like to use one of these and was wondering what sort of voltages and waveforms i'd need, they are similar in operation to a vfd but without a heater.

Magic eye circuits for 6E5
I was recently lucky enough to receive a few Sylvania 6E5 magic eye tubes as part of an assortment of nixies and decatrons. I know these were typically used in radio tuner applications from what I understand, and I've looked over the datasheet and a few other resources, but my experience with vacuum tubes and CRTs is very... more »

One reason for blue dots in Nixie tubes found - anode mesh n...
Now I have to check all my blue tubes. I have decided I liked the blue and have 2 clocks only with blue dots. IN-18 tubes. What is strange is that I only get them with digit #1. maybe because of the least amount of surface in the digit? When asked, I just say they are spirits in the clock. heh. (Sell for... more »

One reason for blue dots in Nixie tubes found - anode mesh not connected to anode!
Hi all, I have found one reason for blue dots on the anode mesh in one of my ZM1042, the anode mesh is not connected to the anode! You can see where the welding has come loose in the first photo I have included (embedding them in the message did not work for some reason), where the red arrow points, the piece from the anode mesh which has been... more »

Interesting VFD clock...
Not entirely nixie tube related obviously, but thought this was a pretty cool implementation using IV-26 tubes.. [link] Nope, still not affiliated with the sale! ;-)... more »

ZX81 Nixie Clock
After cleaning out the garage a few weeks ago and stumbling across my good old ZX81 (well, TS1000 really), I thought it would be quite interesting to turn it into a Nixie Clock! Here's the result: [link] I designed it with TTL logic, no SMD components here. It is direct... more »
